Soundwalking Weekend (24/25 April 2010)

What a glorious weekend! It was just perfect weather for budding soundwalkers. Andra opened our ears to the joys of listening and in particular to the sounds of the forest and lake shore. At the end of the weekend we all felt as if she had transformed our approach to walking in the countryside. We also felt we could use our new found appreciation of listening on walks we take in the future, whether it be in urban or rural spaces.

Thanks to Andra, Pat, Nancy, Joan, Sue and Rose for a memorable weekend of sound. Here is a flavour of the soundwalking recordings from the weekend.

Customized weekend for women's card playing group

For some time now a group of women in the Pointe Claire area have been meeting on Fridays to play cards together. This past weekend, they made a full weekend of it - playing card games that ranged from Wizard to Five Crowns to Salad; enjoying walks in the woods and conversation round the dinner table between sessions. The competition was fierce. The prizes - courtesy of Debbie "the Trickster" Trickie, who alongside Kathy "Cool Hand" McKnight, organized the weekend - were worth fighting for. This was a great example of how the Nurtury can be used by a group of women who want to get away from it all and spend a weekend getting pampered in the hospitality department whilst enjoying an activity together. We - Rona and Linnet - want to thank Kathy, Debbie, Kim, Karen, Lynn, Dorothy, Marlyn and Shari for a wonderful weekend!

Announcing Our Draw Winner

Congratulations to Sue Rachel who is the winner of our National Women's Show Prize Draw. Sue has won a wwp away day for herself and 3 friends.

A successful first gig for the wine women and philosophy singers!

The wwp singers performed on Saturday April 10th at a fundraiser for the McGill Conservatory of Music Adult, Youth and Children's choirs at St John Fisher Church in Pointe Claire. The singers are an outgrowth of a wwp choral weekend that was held last March under the direction of Erica Phare and Kathy McKnight. Some of us just had so much fun singing together over the course of that weekend that we had to keep the wine women and song going! Thanks to Kathy for keeping the choir going on a bi-monthly basis, and for getting us our first gig. We're planning to hit the road soon! Thank you to everyone who stopped by our stand at the National Women's Show in Montreal last weekend

We had a great time at the Salon des Femmes at the Palais des Congres last weekend. We met some fascinating women over the course of 3 days, and enjoyed their encouraging input into this venture of ours. We were especially pleased to share our space at the show with some of our salonnieres and members. Thanks to Marta, Kathy, Wendy and Heather for stopping by and lending us a hand. A special thanks to Bernice for working the stand with us once again, and bringing her own special energy to wwp. We look forward to hearing from any of you we met over the weekend and hope to see you at one of our wwp getaways.

Open House at The Nurtury on Sunday April 25th, 2010

You are invited to attend wine women and philosophy's Open House which is being held at The Nurtury, in Lakefield, Gore - between 2pm and 4pm - on Sunday April 25th, 2010. An easy drive from Montreal, the day is free and all are welcome to come along to find out more about our beautiful premises and location. This is an opportunity to see first hand whether The Nurtury would be a suitable place to go on one of our artist or writer retreats, or to host your own retreats, meetings or events. It will also give you the chance to find out if a wwp weekend or away day is for you. As with all wine women and philosophy occasions, a welcoming glass awaits you.
